When the frogs spawn

Frogs are spawning a bit earlier, especially in the south-west, South Wales and East Anglia, compared to 60 years ago. Source: shown at the end of the post.

Frogs are spawning in Britain up to 10 days earlier in some parts of the country compared to 60 years ago. This trend is most apparent in Cornwall, Devon and Pembrokeshire and East Anglia.

This is the result of recent analysis of the changing time of frog spawning comparing Maxwell Savage’s map of the time of first spawning made in the 1930s and 40s (which I co-incidentally featured here a few days ago), with the results of the Nature’s Calendar project run by the Woodland Trust.
